PDF to Text

Extract the text of a PDF into a plain .txt file, one page after another, with OCR for scanned pages. Free, no sign-up, and your files never leave this device.

Private by design: your files never leave this device. All processing happens in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server.

Text-based conversion: this tool reads the text of your file and rebuilds it in the new format inside your browser. Original layout, fonts, images, tables and complex formatting will differ from the original — this is not an exact conversion. A faithful, layout-preserving conversion needs server-side software and file upload, which this tool does not do: your file never leaves this device.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a PDF to convert.
  2. Extract its text — one page after another — into a plain .txt file.
  3. For a scanned PDF, tick the OCR option first; it reads the pages as pictures.
  4. Download the text file.

Honest limit: OCR reads English printed text only; Urdu is not supported yet.

Questions about this tool

What if my PDF is scanned and has no text?

Tick the scanned-PDF (OCR) option. It reads the pages as pictures and returns the printed English text.

Does the text keep its original layout?

No — the output is plain text, page after page, without the original layout or fonts.
